PROJECT OVERVIEW

In a world where each tiny step marks a giant leap in a child's journey, the Babyadoo Walkernous stands as a beacon of hope and innovation for parents.

Emerging from a personal narrative of walking posture challenges and a collective concern for children's developmental milestones, Babyadoo Walkernous is not just a product but a story of multifunctionality wrapped in an eco-conscious embrace.

It transforms with grace from a walking bench to a baby walker, then to a playful baby rider, all while respecting our planet with its sustainable paper design. This accordion-like wonder isn't just about aiding walking; it's a companion in early growth, offering parents a window into their child's progress through a dedicated app.

DEFINE PROBLEM

In a world filled with the laughter and steps of little ones, there was a simple problem that many overlooked. Baby walkers, those first helpers for wobbly-legged toddlers, were great at first. They were there for those first, unsure steps, but as soon as a child mastered walking, these walkers were left aside, forgotten. For parents, this brought a mix of joy and a hint of worry:

Joy to see their child grow, but worry about the now-useless walker taking up space.”

Parents found themselves in a never-ending cycle. The walkers were good for a while, but they only had one job. Once that job was done, it was time to find something new, leading to a pile of barely-used toys. These abandoned walkers weren't just clutter; they were a reminder of wasted resources and space.

This problem set the stage for something new, something that could grow with a child and adapt to their changing needs. It was a call for a smarter, more sustainable approach to those early, precious steps of childhood. This was where the idea for the Babyadoo Walkernous began – a fresh take on the baby walker, ready to change the story and make those first steps count for more...

RESEARCH

01) Data Research

Data is always the most authentic and objective representation. By consulting the database regarding children under 5 years old (who need walking aids), we can clearly see a trend change over time:

The upper line showed the numbers of children under 5 years old in the world from 1950 to 2020. The line increased in the big picture which means the populations of children are getting larger and larger.

The bottom line showed the increased/decreased numbers of children under 5 years old in the world between each year. The numbers are positive in the big picture which means the children’s population is getting larger than previous.

02) Target Users Analysis

After confirming the age range of the product's target users, I further segmented the age groups, as well as explored the relationship between their learning levels, needs, and other relevant factors, to make the analysis more comprehensive and detailed:

03) Online survey Data

I also conducted a survey questionnaire on online parent forums. From the online survey, it's apparent that most parents care about the potential harm posed by current baby walkers which are mainly made of plastic but they don’t have a clear understanding for what kind of harm might affect their children. They express a desire for products made from environmentally friendly, comfortable, and easy-to-store materials, as they often pass on used baby walkers to others who need them.

Therefore, I researched some articles online on the harm of plastics and turned the findings into a small poster to provide parents with a more visual and straightforward understanding of the issue:

04) Competitor Analysis

A good product relies on competitive analysis with other products. I gathered information on children's walking methods and compared the various advantages and disadvantages of different product materials to conduct a thorough comparison:

05) User Persona

Based on the analysis and summary of the survey results, I created two user personas for children and outlined the specific product needs corresponding to each of them, making the approach more comprehensive and detailed:

DESIGN SOLUTION

To introduce a versatile and sustainable walking aid for infants, accompanied by a user-friendly app that enables parents to track their child's walking progress and access comprehensive information about the product.

Design Concept:

  1. Versatile Functionality: Combines a walking bench, baby walker, and baby rider in one product.
  2. Eco-Friendly Design: Made primarily from sustainable, environmentally friendly paper materials.
  3. Parental Monitoring App: Includes an app for parents to track their child's walking progress and access detailed product information.
  4. Reduced Waste and Space: Innovative Construction: Features an accordion board design for easy transformation and compact storage.
  5. Cost-Effective: Offers high cost-performance due to its multi-use functionality and durability.

Design a product that combines three modes of use tailored to the walking needs of children at different age stages, extending its usage cycle

Baby Walker

The product can be first used as the Baby Walker. The baby just needs to put his/her hands on the cat's face’s board and then he/she can push it to practice walk.

Guiding Bench

The product can be secondly used as the Guiding Bench. The walking baby can hold the edge of the guiding bench to learn to walk. There is also a light tape on the guiding bench to show whether the baby is keeping balance or not. The orange light shows not in balance and the green light shows in balance. The light is also twinkling which can attract the baby to walk forward.

Baby Rider

The product can be thirdly used as the Baby Rider. There’s a seat on the product for the baby to seat on it and learn to ride. The wheels in the bottom also help the product to move. This construction will apply to the baby for older age.
